Untitled — Waxed Photograph with Asemic Writing (2026)
Light is part of this piece.
This ethereal work begins as a photographic reproduction of an original close-up photograph by Sonya Barbee — a macro image of a Moroccan lamp whose pierced metalwork becomes something entirely unrecognizable and mesmerizing at close range. Wax is applied by hand, softening the image into a luminous, silvery dreamscape of pattern and shadow.
Asemic writing flows across the right side of the piece — a human, intimate gesture laid over something ancient and structural. The tension between the two is the piece.
Like the previous work in this series, the wax renders the piece translucent — equally beautiful on a wall or in a window, where light passes through and reveals new depths.
