Wax and Weave 01 | Original Mixed Media on Board (2026)
Structure and spontaneity in conversation.
This one-of-a-kind work begins with painted paper strips — some waxed to create a luminous, translucent quality that allows color and light to show through from beneath. The strips were woven together by hand, then sections of the weave were creased and folded upward, creating a dimensional, sculptural surface that casts its own shadows and changes with the light.
Gestural black asemic writing moves freely across the woven surface, punctuated by splashes and drips of gold that catch the light and illuminate the piece. The result is a work that is simultaneously flat and dimensional, painted and constructed, spontaneous and deeply intentional.
The first in a planned series exploring the intersection of weaving, painting, and paper construction.
